VENUE
The conference venue will be the Perth Convention
Exhibition Centre (PCEC). The three level design is Western Australia's
only purpose-built convention, exhibition and meeting venue. With
its location in the heart of Perth city, the PCEC is conveniently
located for conference delegates (please see PCEC
map).
The PCEC's convenient location on Mounts Bay Road, in the heart of
Perth city and along the Swan River foreshore, provides delegates
and visitors with easy access to the city's facilities, services and
attractions. Several hotels and apartments, as well as restaurants,
bars, cafes, retail outlets and entertainment areas are all located
within walking distance of the PCEC. Another option for delegates
is the central area free public transport system that services the
PCEC, specifically the CAT bus system with the Blue CAT bus running
in a north-south direction via the PCEC, and connecting to the Red
and Yellow CAT buses (please see Perth
map - the PCEC is No. 17).
Complimentary wireless internet access is available to all
delegates with computers. Information on how to access this service
will be available in your conference satchel booklet.
Visit the City of Perth's 'City Visitor Kiosk' at
the Conference Venue, Level 2, on Monday 24th August 2009 between
the hours of 730-1600 for information on transport, shopping, dining,
tours and other city-based services.
Orientation
For a perspective of the conference venue, please
refer to the PCEC
perspective map. You will notice the Convention Centre part
of the PCEC (meeting rooms and riverside theatre) is on the left hand
(or east) side of the map. Access to the Convention Centre part of
the PCEC is from the city side, not the Swan River side.
Once at the venue, delegates may notice that the building design captures
the flow of Perth's stunning Swan River and incorporates colours unique
to Western Australia, including rich ochres of the natural environment.
Inside the venue, the 300-metre long, floor-to-ceiling glass foyer,
across all three levels, features expansive pre-function and foyer
areas providing panoramic city and Swan River views. The impressive
floor-to-ceiling glass foyer creates a seamless link between all of
the venues major rooms and facilities.
Scientific Program
Featuring a
riverside theatre auditorium with tiered seating, numerous
meeting rooms, an advanced audio visual system and wireless internet
access, the PCEC will provide a comfortable conference forum for oral
presentations, easy access to the poster sessions in the northern
and southern foyers, while the exhibitors will be conveniently located
in the central foyer (all on level 2 of the PCEC).
Daily refreshments will be available on arrival each morning, together
with morning and afternoon tea, and lunch. For early session speakers
and attendees, on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 August, pastries and
coffee/tea will be served complimentary between 7.00am-7.40am. Between
sessions, the PCEC's internet café, Velluto, is available for
a catch-up with colleagues, informal meetings and light meals, as
well as internet access.
Delegates will be able to access the theatre, rooms and facilities
on level 2 via multiple entrances. External access includes entry
doors across from the Perth City busport and summer garden area. Stairs
are available from the level 1 plaza area and a lift from the car
park. Internally, access includes the northern stairs to the auditorium
foyer and a lift from the car park. Access is also via stairs and
escalator from the level 1 pavilions foyer.
Please see PCEC
map of level 2.
Social Program
While the scientific program will be hosted on level
2, the Welcome Reception on the
official conference opening night (Sunday, 23 August 2009) and the
Conference Dinner (Wednesday,
26 August 2009) will be hosted in the PCEC's
BelleVue Ballroom on level 3. Delegates can also mingle on
the ballroom's open-air balcony, where they will enjoy the panoramic
views of Perth city, the Swan River and the parkland that divides
the two. The foyer's floor-to-ceiling glass design ensures that delegates
can mingle the night away against a breathtaking backdrop of sparkling
stars and reflective river lights.
Please see PCEC
map of level 3.
The Student Social Night will be held at the Metro Bar and Bistro - directly
opposite the conference venue.
